This Is Our Story
by Ashley Elston
Wow wow wow wow!!! Never in a million years did I think it would be John Michael.
At first I thought it was Henry (kind of as a first thought, and only for the first few chapters), just because he seemed like a leader, and he had it out for Kate (at least much more than the others).
Then I thought it was Logan, because there was a lot of evidence pointing towards him. Like right after Logan saw Kate at Shep’s house, the killer’s dialogue was like (this is not a quote—just my interpretation, lol) “oop, once the boys know she was at Shep’s house, they won’t like Shep no more, and they’ll all testify against him, muhahaha”. So clearly, the natural instinct was to think Logan. Also, one of the other inner dialogue said, “I check the glove box and see that the bag of pills is still where I left it” so that really that only left Logan and John Michael. Like the dummy I am, I fell for Elston’s ruse and thought it was Logan.
John Michael gave the pills to Logan. At the time, there was no evidence against John Michael, and there was a lot of evidence against Logan. I knew that John Michael was definitely still a suspect, and if it wasn’t Logan then it was John Michael, but I was still surprised when the truth came out. John Michael seemed like a sweet kid, but who knew murderous intent lay behind those eyes.
Each page kept me on the edge of my seat—especially the end. Usually while I read I take a break like every hour and for about 5 or so minutes do something else, but with this book my eyes were glued to the page! I did not take a break a single time while I read—besides the obvious to go get a snack or to finish some important stuff that I would rather not do and just read. In fact, I finished this book rather than watching the new Black Widow movie with my family (and this means a lot because I’m a huge Marvel fan, and an even bigger Black Widow fan).
The writing was some of the best I’ve read. It was fast paced and easy to understand, but still making you wonder who did it.
Favorite character: Kate or Shep (they’re cute as a duo too <3)
