Good Girls Don't Die by Christina Henry

2.0

Three women trapped in different stories they know aren’t their own, what does it mean and will they escape? I see what the author was trying to do and for the most part it worked, but the ending ruined it for me. There’s a mix of genres from each woman’s story and I thought that was super unique. It also left me enjoying some of the parts more than others.

In the first part we got Celia’s story and she’s trapped in a cozy mystery and I immediately enjoyed her story because I enjoy the genre but it also had a bit of the amnesia trope. I wish the story would have gone a bit further because I was hoping to see her discover more and more about the world she was in and start the actual sleuthing of the crime committed. I could have read an entire book where this was the plot. Of course the ending would have had to be different.

In the second part we had Allie who was trapped in a slasher and although I typically like slashers this part did not work for me. All the characters were annoying and they didn’t seem like great friends which for the setting and vibe it was going for really missed the mark. And I didn’t like that the rules in this world seemed different than the first.

In part three Maggie was trapped in a dystopian Hunger Games-esque reality show. And I liked how true to the tropes it stayed.

Part four was when everything was revealed and I have to say I don’t know what I was expecting but I didn’t like it. Again I see what the author was going for, it just didn’t work for me.
