Double-edged
by Nyla K.
This book is 100% taboo! It’s an MMM romance involving twins (Cyrus & Colson) and their Step-dad, Tauren. The author warns you in the beginning what you are getting into so please pay attention to that!
I had to sit on this book for a few days to process my thoughts because this is my first taboo read. I should also say that I will read anything once if the blurb sounds interesting and I also really don’t have any triggers. I’m so glad I picked this one to be my first, because it’s so well done!
I love the contrast between Cy & Col. Cy the smart kid , who likes to read and loves Batman; Col is an artistic soul, he enjoys playing guitar, and unlike his brother doesn’t care for school. I feel like their personalities are a nice example of nature vs nurture. Cy is the golden child or as Col likes to call him “good twin" which makes Col the problem child aka “bad twin,” and their parents along with most other people in their life treat them that way. I felt like the boys definitely feed into these roles a bit, but they are each others rock and have an understanding about each other that no one can really comprehend. Their relationship alone is truly beautiful and the growth they have from when we first meet them to where we find them by the end is really well done.
This book does deal with mental illness so again check your trigger/content warnings. Cy has pretty severe social anxiety (undiagnosed cause his parents suck) and Col has also been diagnosed with mental illness (not saying what since it feels like a spoiler) that plays a role into how he behaves to a degree.
Tauren comes into the picture as their Step-dad and he really wants to be there for the boys. Before anything he really does go in wanting to be a good role model and father figure to the boys. While he has more in common with Cy (smart, book nerds,) he does try with Col which is more than anyone else has. He is the first person to tell and show the twins they are worthy of love, they are more than the bad/good twin.
The spice is excellent but I will remember the birthday celebration for some time because it was
