The Dharma Bums
by Jack Kerouac
Kerouac did a fantastic job with this novel. I surprisingly enjoyed this far more than I did On the Road. Perhaps because I've matured as a reader or he matured as a writer or maybe a combination of them both. His Buddhist musings throughout this novel were fascinating and all the self-discovery he went through during the events that took place in the novel is what made this book worth while. He makes you look not only within his character but also inside yourself. He manages to force you into self-reflection without you realizing it. If you're fixing to read some Kerouac, I recommend The Dharma Bums.
