The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
4.0

It’s always humbling to read people’s personal trials and realising that people have overcame unmentionable adversities and still managed to grow and thrive.
War, then and now, has never been a solution to any conflict. We have seen the sorrow war leaves behind time and again, and yet do not move away from it. Compassion and kindness is the only eradicator of hate, there is no other way.
Reading about the Vietnam war and knowing about it in such depth was educational to say the least. This book is hard to read, not because of the writing, but the feeling that it evokes in you.
The mountains sing is a book about hope, written so well and with such depth that it pulls you in and keeps you wondering on a lot of things. It’s not an easy read, but if are a history junkie, you will like this one.
Take your time with this one, because there is sweetness and it makes it all worth it.
