Asher Black by Parker S. Huntington

I'm a mafia girly HOWEVER this romance was as exciting as watching paint dry. These two had very little chemistry and I am now bitter and annoyed.

The main character, Lucy, is basically Little Einstein. She reminds us this the entire book saying she's gorgeous and smart. I love female characters who are confident, but instead of her constantly telling us this in the first 15% at least 3 times, I wanted to see that through her actions. We couldn't do that though because for most of the book absolutely nothing happened. Lucy was bullshitting around at college while Asher was out doing his little mafia stuff, but neither of these were things we got to dive too deeply into.

I feel robbed that we didn't get a POV from Asher because he could have been a good character if he was developed further. He wasn't as possessive as other mafia heroes which I was thankful for. If the author could have dived deeper into who he was and gave more of a backstory, we could figure out why that it is because he lives in a world that isn't always kind to women. Somehow though, Asher was a cinnamon role mafia boss? He didn't seem all that dangerous despite the author always mentioning how dark and dangerous he was.

If you want a mafia romance that follows the same tropes as other mafia books in the exact same, unoriginal way, this might be your book. I found it to be dull and a disappointing read.
