Dark Gold by Christine Feehan

Alex, the heroine, pulled some really stupid thstunts in here. Like, really, really stupid. And yet...I managed to like her well enough. She loved her brother, Joshua, more than anything, she was independent, and talented. Aidan, the Carpathian hero, needed endless patience to deal with her, though, since she could also be extremely childish. I loved Aidan for his patience, his loyalty to those he cared for, and how seriously he took his duties. Watching these two learn to be partners made for good reading, even if it did take Alex almost the whole book to stop being an idiot. I loved Jashua, and Aidan's housekeeper and her husband, Marie and Stefan. The beginning chapters in this book were utterly gripping. They were super-intense with all that action and emotion, and it made this story hard to put down. Overall, this was really good, with Alex being what brought things down.
