Royal Blood by Aimée Carter
4.0

From the very start, I was absolutely hooked on this book. I loved it so much that I can hardly wait to see where the series goes next - I need to know what happens right now!

The story takes place in an alternate UK and follows Evan Bright, the illegitimate daughter of the King of England. When she is forced to spend the summer with her estranged father and unsupportive royal family in London, her true identity is exposed to the world and the media frenzy that ensues puts her in the spotlight. This leads to a dangerous situation when she becomes the primary suspect in a murder investigation. As Evan fights to clear her name, she uncovers royal secrets that could change the monarchy forever.

Although the mystery was not very mysterious, as the details were revealed early on, I found Evan to be a deeply complex character. Her resilience and depth made her a fascinating protagonist, especially in the chapters where she pieces together her relationship with her mother. I felt that it was written very realistically and with a rawness that made it all the more compelling.

The romance was also well-done, taking a backseat to the main plot but still managing to be incredibly sweet. Kit's support of Evan was truly heartwarming <3333
Additionally, the alternative history that the author created and the insights into this new British royal family were thoroughly enjoyable.

I must warn that there are triggering topics in the book, such as sexual assault, date rape drugs, mental illness, and adultery, but overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick & addicting read!!
