Tempest by C.L. Stone

3.0

I decided to take some time before writing a review, especially because I truly did not know how to feel after the book ended. It was fast-paced throughout the entire thing, however, I sort of just blew threw it and was left thoroughly confused when I came out the other end. And now, weeks later, I actually have to think really hard to remember what even happened in Tempest, which says a lot about how unmemorable most of the book was to me...

I was so excited after waiting for so long to see how the characters were faring following the crazy events of Hoax. And I was let down and disappointed. Let me explain to the best of my abilities.

SpoilerAdmittedly, the first 8 or 9 chapters weren't that bad, with not much going on, other than the characters preparing to disperse. I was kind of annoyed that we didn't get more of a reunion between Kayli and Raven after he is released from prison, because I guess it's just totally normal for newly married couples to find each other sleeping with other people as soon as possible. Don't get me wrong, I love Corey and Raven and don't mind them being together as well, but this was definitely not the right time nor place for them in the story. I also could have done without the clothes shopping, and feel more strongly about this now that I know this was a crossover thrown in to probably encourage readers to try out C.L.'s latest series...which right now I have no inclination to do since we have all been tearing our hair out waiting for ghost bird and scarab beetle books!

Overall though, I didn't mind the dragging as much because C.L. seemed to be setting up the story for some seriously good action, and then... it just DIDN'T HAPPEN. Basically everyone gets captured again, and by the same people. Did they not learn the first time? And then that gang comes out of nowhere with the upper hand on Alice? And somehow Kayli is able to deceive them, but not Alice? And how does Axel even get away at the end? Everyone gets free, they hide for a bit, then BOOM. Time for camp! Oh, and Kevin is back again. Hooray.

All the plot holes and questions I was left with! Like, did we all just forget that everyone who was kidnapped was probably poisoned again, yet no one was taken to the hospital but went to the camp perfectly fine?

*sigh* Sorry for the rant, but all those thoughts and feelings I had when finishing Tempest just came flooding back. Hopefully C.L. addresses these issues in the next book (if it ever gets written), but I highly doubt it. I have loved this series and The Ghost Bird series since I began them back in high school, but as the years go by, I am finding it harder and harder to keep patiently waiting for endings that may never come...
