Animate Me
by Ruth Clampett
I'm going to start by saying I do think two stars is kind of generous - the whole time I was reading this I just kept thinking that it read like bog-standard fan-fiction - kind of clichéd, unrealistic dialogue and situations - it wasn't that good.
There are redeeming features, Brooke is realistic - she has hang ups about her body (not helped with Arnolds comments), the end part of the book is intriguing with the whole law suit thing - I wish this had happened earlier as it really picked up what was otherwise a kind of dull romance. But there were so many things I just cringed at - the dialogue in places was just totally unbelievable, as was the way some of the people acted. I also cannot believe that Brooke as a young professional would think it at all appropriate to undertake an intimate act in the work place - fantasise about it if you want but it is unprofessional, un-hygenic and just downright gross.
The little drawings that were in the book were cute, they weren't needed but did help to emphasise some parts of the story - there was, however, perhaps a bit too much name/show dropping of famous animators.
If this was a first effort it was certainly better than anything I could produce, and definitely had an original storyline, but unfortunately I didn't find the characters particularly likeable so found it to be a bit of a slog.
