The Black Girl Survives in This One by Saraciea J. Fennell, Desiree S. Evans
4.0
“The message to Black women in much of horror is that we are not meant to exist— and especially not meant to survive.”
Black girls really did survive in these stories, and leading with that affirmation really did something good to my spirit All the stories were so different but shared similar messages about what it means to exist and survive as all types of Black women and girls in this world. The horror consisted of body snatchers, ghosts, space stories, haunted houses, zombies, cults, etc. Of course with all anthologies, some stories were *chefs kiss* while others were confusing but overall still really good. This book is also YA, so you won’t be shaking in your boots but there were some pretty cozy and creative stories.
Some of my favorite stories were:
-Harvesters
-The Brides of Devils Bayou
-TMI (my #1!!!!!!)
-Black Pride
-Black Girl Nature Group
-Foxhunt
