This book is beautiful. I have to say that before anything. Now the second thing I have to say is it isn’t really a romance. This was recommended to me as a fantasy romance similar to the Darkling and Alina but where they end up together. I can see why because there are tendrils there especially with the way their magic reacts to each other’s(my favorite part). Still romance is probably 15% of this book and had I known that I’m not sure if I would have started it. I am definitely glad to have read it though. It’s very rare for a book to keep my interest without prominent romance and this book managed it. It probably helps that it includes some of my favorite tropes, immortal unfeeling wizard falling for heroine gets me every time. The beginning was my favorite, but then they spent a huge portion of the book apart. I loved the ending and I did love their romance I just was a little starved for it, I wanted more interaction from them. I was happy with their relationship though they had me grinning with each moment they did have!
Okay so for the rest I adored the plot, the world, the magic, the characters, the wood, everything! It was so well written the words disappeared as I read and it was like a trance. The wood almost gave me Labyrinth vibes just those fun spooky vibes. It honestly felt flawless to me and I can see why it’s praised and recommended so highly. It deserves it. I loved how everything was revealed and I loved the ending so much. It felt such a beautiful natural end to the story. Obviously the prose spoke to me. I’m in love with the writing style.
