We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce. Carol Oats

3.0

This book is a very real look at how a tragedy inflicted upon a child can tear apart even the strongest of families. The setting of the book, High Point Farm, and the time period, 1970-1993, makes it all the more poignant. In 1970 women didn't speak of rape and families didn't have the knowledge or the skills to cope with it out in the open. Though the story is told through the eyes of the "forgotton son" his understanding and reminiscing style of oration is thought provoking and emotional.
