Ten Steps to Nanette: A Memoir Situation by Hannah Gadsby
5.0
I had seen Nanette when it was first released as it had stirred up a great deal of controversy in internet circles. Back then Hannah's performance had moved me to tears in ways that I would not expect from a comedy show, and it was truly an incredible experience. After I finished reading this fantastic memoir, I came back to the special, and I felt that the extra context helped me to connect to it even more. Hannah is extremely vulnerable in their art, exposing the details of their trauma, relationships, health and healing journey. In writing, they maintain the same delivery as in their specials, which is a joy to read.
