Oh, man, this was a lot of fun! I wasn't entirely sure what to expect and in the beginning, I honestly had no idea what craziness I'd fallen into. But I just went with it and had a great time. After reading Nik Knight's Passing Through Purgatory and now this, the M/M Monster Rom Com might be one of my new favorite genres.
I identified a lot with certain parts of Taylor, which made his journey to a happy, fulfilling life all the more satisfying. However, he wasn't at all what I expected him to be going into this. Same with Holt, actually. Where I'd expected Taylor to be kind of arrogant, I expected Holt to be kind of intimidating and grumpy. Clearly, I went into this fairly blind and based my expectations mostly on how these two appear on the cover. So when I got two sweet and adorably awkward guys with explosive chemistry, I was overjoyed, to say the least. Also, Lily writes some of the best spicy scenes. Seriously.
The cast of side characters is colorful, to say the least, and I actually loved every single one of them. I also would love to see basically all of the single wrestlers to get their own book. Please and thank you. I also totally scoured Lily's Twitter/X to get all the artwork for them so I know what everyone looks like. I'm not exactly a fan of wrestling but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this book whatsoever. So don't let that hold you back!
I'll admit that it was a tad juvenile in humor at times. It didn't bother me all that much overall, but I can see how it might bother others. For me, the only niggle that prevents me from giving this 5 stars is the use of "dude" and "bro", mainly by Larkin. That is absolutely nothing against him as a character because I love him! I just really do not like those words. Anywhere. Books, movies, tv, real life... Nope. Brain does not like them. But they came up quite a bit, and I hope it's less in the next book.
Overall, another great Lily Mayne book! I'm starting book 2 right away and am glad book 3 is only days away.
