Although this is a poetry book, it's almost a kind of self-help book at the same time. I could feel the hurt and pain of the author upon reading her words. But there was a kind of comfort in that because it said that my hurt and pain is also okay and gave me the permission I need to heal myself.
We've (probably) all had our heart broken at least once, so I think we could all relate to the poems in this book. They were both painfully raw, and beautifully healing. I found I had to pause often to just sit with the feelings they induced. For me, that's the mark of good poetry. I could have read the whole book in 30 minutes or so, but I wouldn't have had the same appreciation for the words.
Like the blurb says, I "refuse to be extinguished". My light will shine bright, and I deserve to be loved.
