Death at the Chateau Bremont by M.L. Longworth

3.0

Antoine Verlaque is a judge in Aix, France. His former lover Marine Bonnet is a law professor. It’s been six months since the breakup but there is a strong connection still.

Verlaque is assigned to investigate the suspicious death of a nobleman who fell from the attic of his chateau. Marine happened to know the deceased well as they were childhood friends. So he consults with her and eventually she becomes an adjunct investigative assistant.

Of course the cuisine and landscape of Southern France is enmeshed into the storytelling. We learn much about the Corsican mafia and the Russian mob and billionaires. But it’s an almost biblical tale of two brothers who were wrongly perceived by others. Looking forward to the next tale.
