The Situation Room: The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis by George Stephanopoulos

4.25

A short history of the Situation Room, from the days of the Cuban Missile Crisis up to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  A number of the principals (leaders) are interviewed, including Condi Rice, and Robert Gates (their voices included in the audiobook).  But what made this book so interesting to me were the staffers whose voices and words take us behind the scenes as these critical events unfold.

The author strives to be apolitical, as the staffers in the Sit Room are.  This helped give me a fuller understanding of the people behind the policies and decisions - whether I agreed or disagreed.
