etemp 's review for:

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
2.75

in lieu of a structured review, i'm just gonna list my journal entries while reading, in roughly chronological order:

-not beating the 'why choose' allegations
-getting icky vibes from adam about consent (edit: this is a recurring theme)
-literal line from the text: "Blue was a fanciful but sensible thing...like a platypus" (edit: using animal metaphors to describe blue is a recurring theme)
-f slur jumpscare
-not them punching the drywall (edit: this is a recurring theme)
-i hate reading about cars and street racing, i'm skipping whole chapters
-i get that it was sweet for noah to offer to be blue's first kiss, but girl that was so messy to be making out with him on gansey's bed???
-and here on the left, we see a dumbass boy comparing a grown woman in high heels to a bullet train
-something gay is happening with ronan and this goddamn camaro, my gaydar is tingling
-ok wait, i don't give a shit about the street racing or cars but I'm kinda curious if something gay is gonna happen
-did kavinsky just send gansey a dick pic from ronan's phone? and we're not gonna mention it ever again? cool, cool
- Adam, listen to me so carefully: mocking a girl for being a 'raging feminist' during a conversation about why she won't kiss you is CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. Jail!
-"YOU DIDN'T SAY YOU DON'T SWING THAT WAY" EVERYBODY STAY CALM, WE GOT A GAY ONE
-so you're telling me that the main source of conflict in this book boils down to kavinsky being bored and lonely?

this one was a stretch for me, if i'm being honest. sorry to everyone that recommended it to me, but when more than one character punches drywall, i'm gonna be pretty checked out. the gay reveal saved it for me, but after reading some reviews about the next two books, i think i'll stop here.
