Jude Brighton has been missing for 3 days. While the search continues the community is losing hope that they’ll find him. They all know the first 48h are critical. Stevie Clark, his best friend and cousin, watches a lot of crime tv and even he knows every minute counts. Before Jude there was Max. And those animals. For years residents have been thinking a killer has been lurking. But the truth may be even more horrifying than they think.

This book has some intense atmosphere building at such a pace the pages will keep on flipping. I could feel myself pacing Stevie’s bedroom, wondering where Jude is. There was just something so unsettling about this story, definitely for those who like a crime backdrop to their horror.

Unfortunately I didn’t really connect with Stevie or any of the other characters. Just didn’t drive the story for me. Stevie was quite likeable and the characters were layered and well developed so this was definitely a me problem. A case of disconnect for me personally. Because of that it was just a middle of the road read for me.

I’ve been told to try Ahlborn’s books so I picked this entirely due to the cover. While Ahlborn’s writing is undeniably excellent, I don’t think this story overall was my cup of tea. That being said, I definitely want to read more of her books, 3✨.
