I probably would have liked this a lot more if I read it last year when I was getting into reading for the first time. However, this is the fifth young adult fantasy book I've read this year and I can say that they've become very hard to differentiate from each other. When I think back on the young adult fantasy books I've read this year, all their details blend together. It feels like all the authors were friends, got together, shared ideas, then everyone started writing their books, incorporating everyone's shared ideas. Which then creates a bunch of series that seem like they're alternate realities of the same book.
