Year of Yes
by Shonda Rhimes
I metaphorically put this audiobook down in the first chapter and decided that was that. I was overwhelmed by the voice and the tone of the book. Of course, I'm not a big fan of audiobooks as it is, but something about the way this sounded really turned me off.
A couple days later, I decided to give it another try since I had a long drive ahead of me. I listened to the entire thing in my next few days of travel. The book had spunk, much like Shonda Rhimes. It was narrated by her, about her, and some more of her. Some people might think she talks too much and goes on and on about herself, but don't forget, the book is about her life and her "YES" journey. Overall, I enjoyed it and I am glad I gave it another chance.
The writing is quirky and sassy and it's a very quick read. Most of it helps you learn about Shonda but many parts also make you introspective. If you want a lighthearted read, go for it. It's a book about taking chances, and her perspective is just an example. It's not a guidebook or a self-help book, so don't go into it expecting that.
