All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
5.0
Wow.
I went into this book expecting a young adult version of Me Before You, and because of this I was holding off of reading it for a while.
I was so wrong. Although Me Before You and All The Bright Places share themes, they are so so different in style and characters and tone and almost everything.
At the beginning of the book, I found that Finch was easy to understand and that I couldn't quite understand Violet 's thought process, and I thought that this was because the author had their favourite characters etc etc. But halfway through the story, this scenario flipped, and I found Violet easier to understand than Finch. That was when I realised that this was done cleverly for effect.
I don't know what to say about this book. I loved every part until the ending, but it would be unfair to say I didn't like the ending because that ending was perfect for this book. It's just not what I wanted to happen.
It was incredibly well written, and in certain places the book broke my heart. It was so well done, it has to be one of my absolute favourites even if I wished the story had taken a different route.
This is one of the most addictive books I've read in a long time. I'd find myself still reading at ridiculously late hours, my tiredness completely forgotten and just wanting to find out what happened in the next chapter.
