We Are All So Good at Smiling by Amber McBride

4.0

A Beautiful, Layered Allegory

Two children who witnessed a terrible tragedy struggle to deal with the emotional ramifications in this unique novel in verse. Like Dante’s Inferno, We Are All So Good at Smiling leads the reader through stages of grief and realization. The story is chaotic and hard to follow at times, but that is in keeping with the roiling emotions that come with trauma. A solid YA pick for teens who enjoy dark fairy tales.
