This book picks up 2 years after the events of the first book and has a much heavier tone. The characters have grown up and lived some hard life and gotten jaded. The first book is so idealistic and sweet, and this book is much less so. There’s less banter overall, but we get Wes’s POV which helps a lot. There’s a lot of miscommunication in the past, that continues not being discussed in the present, which is always a frustrating trope. I was still just as invested and found it just as easy to root for Wes and Liz.
