walford 's review for:
The Europeans
by Henry James
I used to read this kind of thing all the time, and I'm delighted to find I can still enjoy it. A lot of James I find 'depressing'. This probably says more about me than his work, but the tragedies of Isabel Archer (Portrait of a Lady) and Daisy Miller really do bring me down. Just knowing that they must inevitably make bad choices that lead to their undoing...
So, enough about me. This is completely delightful and highly recommended if you'd like to tackle some Great Lit without having to deal with the above-mentioned.
