The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
by John Boyne
It's hard to imagine that such a quick read could have such an impact. Bruno remains naïve throughout, which at first makes it almost impossible to like him, but then makes the reader understand just how illogical and horrible the events of the book really are. Bruno's naïveté is protective at first, but ultimately nothing can protect him from the terrible reality of the Holocaust, even as an "Opposite."
