This is a short book that takes a bit to get off the ground before things start to unravel. I am not a fan of mystery noir where the twists and who-done-it is voluntarily revealed by the main characters. Think cartoon evil villains that waste time telling you every detail of their plan only to be foiled by the hero. The amount of times I yelled “NO ONE WOULD DO THIS” were limitless. Pip was deeply naive until the very end and that’s disappointing. Veronica Mars without any of the moxy, intuition, or crime fighting skill. I finished it because it was quick, not because it was worth the read.
