Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare

Oh wow. so it's done and theres that.

this was a wild ride for sure. Honest I dont totally know how I feel about it. the characters were pretty unlikeable and when i finally did end up liking someone, they died. like instantly. but the story was original, and I was invested: i don't remember the last time i finished a book so quick.

Janet, Ronnie and Matt sucked. and they did form the beginning. especially janet. there is a second book (which I'll end up reading sooner rather than later,) and i'm hoping it explains the reasoning and logistics of Ronnie and Matt's decisions? because 'being on the right side of history' isn't explanation enough for me.

At first, I thought i hated quinn. but i grew to like her. sort of. she reminded me of myself, which possibly explains the love hate relationship...but anyway. her inner dialogue at times was too forced, and, not to place this card, but, obvious she was written by a dude. which isn't to say it was bad, it was just very clearly an 'outside perspective' if you get what i mean.

Cole is the only trait in this book keeping it from a one star. he did start of not so great, but i have to admit he grew on me, as did rust, even if it took some time.

BUT jesus, the forced diversity or representation, seriously? i am all for mlm or wlw and everything in between, but don't throw it in so you can tag your book in another reading list, which is pretty much exactly what this book does.

Also, another factor that brought the rating down from three stars is the fact that i can't actually believe that a whole town was just totally down to kill their populations entire generation x kids just for the hell of it? because they were being little dicks like kids usually are, like youre telling me that well over twenty adults were down for it, and not only that but when people were NOT down, instead of going to higher authority like the FBI or another county police department, they actually voiced their opinion and were like "hey murderers lets not?" and then get surprised when they're murdered?

wild.

also i expected more clown in cornfield. he was in a cornfield for maybe 12 sentences out of the entire book. misleading.
