I read this book because my dad has told me for many years that it's one of his favorites (well, it's actually the second Tarzan book, but you really need to read the first book first). And Dad has pretty good taste most of the time, so I thought I'd give this a shot. It's very different than I thought it would be. It's super exciting, very violent, pretty racist, and it ends on a cliffhanger. I can see why the story has endured, but I can also see why the story was changed so much for the Disney movie. It's not very child friendly. But I really did enjoy it, so I'll probably read book 2.
