Fragments by Dan Wells

3.0

I went into this book not remembering very much from Partials. Unfortunately, there was very little recap and I ended up resorting to an internet search to figure out what was going on.

The plot was pretty involved and it was definitely a book that made me think. The author provided lots of food for thought. I enjoyed the moral arguments in this book.

Unfortunately, there were several things I didn't enjoy so much. For one, the characters were very underdeveloped and there was never enough time devoted to building them up. Plus, I know this was the point, but Samm came off as very robotic. It was hard for me to think of him as a human.

There wasn't very much growth in the character's relationships and I wasn't buying the romance.
SpoilerKira and Samm had very poor communication. How on earth did they fall in love? To me, it was like two people who speak two different languages falling in love, or more likely, lust.

The story dragged a lot and it was very easy for me to put this book down. I'm not sure if I'll finish the series. To be honest, the only reason why I picked up the second book was because I was running low on book recommendations. This wasn't a terrible read, but there are better out there.

2.5 Stars.
