“Sucker Punched” is the second book in the Nashville Parliament series. You can read it as standalone but the book is a crossover with the “undisclosed” series. The author does a fantastic job introducing the characters from “undisclosed” and I promise you wont feel lost but I personally think it’s more fun if you’ve at least read “Curiosity” and “Attraction” from that series first.
In this book we follow Esme and Jake. The two of them meet through a hookup app, spend an amazing night together, and then part ways without even exchanging first names. They think they’ll never see each other again, they don’t even live in the same state but fate has other plans and they end up working at the same place.
I absolutely devoured this book, I finished it in a day, the pacing was really great and I was rooting for Esme and Jake from chapter one. I especially connected with Esme. Something happened to him in the beginning of the book that was really unfair and I was upset for him but it brought him back to Jake and things worked out in the end. I loved seeing how Jake’s friends pretty much adopted him in their found family and helped him figure things out. I also really liked seeing Esme experience new things and finding love and acceptance. He was very very lonely and needed someone like Jake.
Jake was wonderful too, very sweet and kind and playfull. I was rooting for his happily ever after too. It’s hard when all your friends are in happy relationships and you’re alone and it warmed my heart that he finally found his perfect match. Him an Esme had fantastic chemistry and I enjoyed their dynamic very much.
Finally the cameos in this book put a huge smile on my face. I adore the guys from the “undisclosed” series and it was amazing catching up with them, I’ve missed them so much.
And the ending was very satisfying.
And if you need another reason to read this book, there’s a cute capybara named Chloe.
Highly recommend, a new favorite by the author.
