Murder in an English Village by Jessica Ellicott

2.0

2.5 stars rounded down. This novel just lacked luster. It felt like we were being introduced to the character Beryl at the wrong time in her life. All of the exciting things had already happened and I would have been far more interested in her adventures rather than this cozy mystery in this sleepy little English town. This was just far too boring. There was almost no action. Instead, we got a lot of interrogations. Talked to so-and-so today, we'll talk to so-and-so tomorrow, rinse and repeat.

Spoiler I had an inkling that Walter Bennett was involved, but knew that he was definitely the red herring of a killer. I knew it was a woman. I did somewhat suspect that Polly had killed Agnes, but that didn't turn out. I had already guessed who the father of her child was once we found out what happened to Agnes, but, as Edwina said, all of this stuff that happened because Beryl felt the need to fabricate a lie in order to make Edwina appear richer than she actually is, so...a very strange story indeed.
