The Shotgun Conservationist: Why Environmentalists Should Love Hunting by Brant MacDuff

3.5

I think the big thing I learned from this book is not to confuse poachers and hunters. It was a relatively good nonfiction read, not that dry, not too sciency either.

Some qualms I have: the author refers to the continent of Africa as a monolith, and also doesn’t offer any exploration of conservation being good or bad, effective or ineffective. It seems that he thinks that all conservation is good. The author interviews a lot of people for this book and from my recollection, none of them were indigenous or if they were, they were not being interviews on behalf of their tribe. I would have liked to hear their voices
