Panic
by Lauren Oliver
So, I didn't really like this one at first. But to be fair... it probably has to do with the fact that I read the translated (Dutch) version... Gosh I hate translated books and this has just reminded me of it.
So here's how I actually began reading this book in Dutch -- biggest mistake of my life.
Somewhere in 2016 I was in London and while I was sticking my nose into all the shelves of a particular bookstore, my eyes landed on Panic. Mentally noting to myself that I should look it up online once I got home, I sort of forgot about it.
Then... I went to a bookstore in the Netherlands a while later and saw this book. In Dutch. Don't do it kids. Thinking, 'oh well, how bad can it be to read a translated book for once,' I bought it. And now I've finished it.
I liked the book itself and it's my fault for not giving it four stars, but the translated-ness of it just left me irritated and --at first-- reluctant to read it.
But, I mean, after the first one hundred pages it got quite exciting and I was able to ignore that it would sound so much better in English most of the the time.
So yeah. Don't read translated books because you'll regret it eventually. At least, I did.
