Thank you to the author for the ARC!
Let me start by saying that Adorabol Huckleby-Ordaz has become an auto-buy and auto-read author for me!
This was a 5-star read for me from start to finish! I loved how she wrote the black experience - how our culture handles and views grief, how women are often deemed unapproachable, and how we love deeply and protect what's ours. Merit and Ira's love story was beautiful and believable. I enjoyed how it wasn't rushed but was authentic and wholesome. I'm not typically a sports romance girly but this one was great. Basketball wasn't the primary storyline but was a common denominator between both main characters. I thought it would be like Love and Basketball - and I was humbled! This book does what Love and Basketball THOUGHT it was doing! While the former shows toxic masculinity and one-sided love, Ira is THAT GUY! He wholeheartedly loves our girl Merit OUT LOUD and meets her on her level without compromising his wants. The dialogue and character development was *chef's kiss*
Sorry if my review is all over the place but that's just how excited I am about On Merit Alone!
