Pet Sematary by Stephen King

5.0

Wow!! I’m speechless. The amount of unsettling fear and anxiety this novel gave me is unmatched. There’s an incredibly ominous atmosphere and this overwhelming feeling of dread. I have never read a book that made me feel this way. Pet Sematary is the definition of pulse-pounding. Several times, I caught myself scared to turn the page.

I think this is the darkest King novel I’ve read so far. What makes it so dark is the horror combined with extreme grief. Louis Creed’s love for his family drives him into the dark depths of insanity. He never stood a chance against the darker and stronger forces at work. The most chilling part is the evil spirit feeding off such personal and vulnerable energy!

Overall, this novel is unforgettable. It’s easily in my top ten for the year. I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. The ending shook me to my core. I can’t and won’t say too much because I refuse to spoil this masterpiece for you. I highly recommend it, and all horror lovers need to read this novel. It’s a must!

Quotes I loved:

“Sometimes dead is better”

“It’s probably wrong to believe there can be any limit to the horror which the human mind can experience.”

“The soil of a man's heart is stonier, Louis. A man grows what he can, and he tends it. 'Cause what you buy, is what you own. And what you own... always comes home to you.”

“Resurrection... ah, there's a word
(that you should put right the fuck out of your mind and you know it).”
