All-New X-Factor, Vol. 1: Not Brand X by Peter David
4.0
I stumbled upon a few issues of The All-New X-Factor whilst buying the latest Sandman: Overture at me local comic shop, and I was both drawn by the minimalist artwork and by the fact that it featured Gambit, my favourite mutant. Then I got excited because--at long last--it seemed as if a Marvel writer finally GOT Gambit, and wrote him well. He was charming and funny and goofy again (and had a great foil in Quicksilver), as opposed to the lovesick disappointment he had become after storyline after storyline teasing a relationship with Rogue, only to have it scraped over and over (plus the utter mis-step of pairing him with kids and teens). And then? And then I found out this title has already been cancelled. So my opinion of this volume is moot. But here it is: It's fun and funny, and I liked the art style and the team. I was gonna hang around, after decades of not following a monthly X-title. But ah well. C'est la vie, n'est pas?
