American Gods by Neil Gaiman

I read this because it was highly recommended by two of my friends, and I kind of regret the decision. Yes, the premise is undeniably brilliant, and I loved the mythology, but I didn't really like Shadow's character--he just felt so flat, so two-dimensional and detached. It was almost like his character existed simply to propel the story along. Gaiman has some pretty writing, but I wasn't a fan of his penchant for over-detail. Finally, maybe I'm stupid, but I couldn't figure out the point of the plot, especially after the anti-climactic twist and cop-out ending.
