Left me drained emotionally in the end but loved Steinbecks prose.  Steinbeck was able to pack so much into such short amount of pages. Themes of brotherhood, capitalism, class and race were explored through such a funny prose. The dialogues was what actually got me hooked. There was this thin veil of sadness permeating the narrative, in a world where wealth extraction was the norm, the brothers' dreams seemed extremely far fetched.
