marceelf 's review for:
That Night
by Chevy Stevens
I really wanted to love this book, because I've loved Chevy Stevens's other books.. And I finished it in one day, so it's not that it was terrible. It was a good story, the sheriff was an unexpected twist.
But it was almost like reading a book as a procedural. I know that sounds weird but I felt no emotional connection to any ofthe characters.
I found Toni completely unsympathetic, I never really felt sorry for her or invested in her clearing her name. Part of it was the setup to the murder. You leave your sister in a truck in the woods alone at night so you can have sex with your boyfriend, then you let yourself fall asleep after he's fallen asleep? Made absolutely no sense. Why would you take your sister along if all you were planning was a quickie? Gross.
So I kind of got where the mother was coming from at the end, feeling as if it still was partially Toni's fault. Although we never bonded with the mom either to understand her relationship with her daughters.
Long story short, it was good, but not great.
