This book has been siting on my shelves for a little over 4 years now - I first got intrigued by the title when I was 17 - and I can't believe it has taken this long to open it.

This is one of the most incredible books I've ever read. Etaf Rum's writing style has so much power, it's so so beautiful and impactful. This story about Isra and her daughter Deya made me feel so many different emotions and I cried many times. It's far from being an easy book to read as it tackled violence against women, forced marriage, misogyny, but also anger, grief, loss and traumas from childhoods in occupied Palestine.

This story is so nuanced and complex and sad, but I think that its heart lies in the hope you find written between the lines throughout the whole book, which becomes more and more important towards the end. I still need time to process my emotions, but I don't think I will stop thinking about this book anytime soon.
