Dead Sky Morning by Karina Halle

5.0

This book is my favourite of the series BY FAR.

The entire story is told while on the set of the third episode of Experiment in Terror and it takes place on D’Arcy island in British Columbia. As a Canadian, I had never heard of this island before, so along with some pine chilling spooks and lots of drama, I also learned some pretty brutal history about my home country!

The ghosts in this book were the scariest so far. THERE WAS A LEPER BABY CRAWLING UP PERRY’S BODY for gods sake! You can’t get much more terrifying than that!

I also really enjoyed the ‘Lord of Flies’ vibes that Perry and Dex had going on. It was very Freudian how over the course of the book, they started to lose their civilization and began relying on their baser instincts (like Perry breaking Dex’s nose!)

I also think Perry & Dex’s relationship developed immensely. They have officially cheated! Like cheated, cheated! It’s really interesting reading [b:The Dex-Files|15746858|The Dex-Files (Experiment in Terror, #5.6)|Karina Halle|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1602889694l/15746858._SY75_.jpg|21437922] alongside the series, because Dex’s perspective really changes the way I see his relationship with Jennifer. From the way he describes it, it is a loveless relationship born of convenience and safety. He doesn’t love Jenn, so he’s save staying with her. He will never devolve into the person he was while he was with Abbie. It’s interesting, but not redeemable enough to make what they’re doing ok. Especially not Perry who’s under the assumption that Dex and Jenn are in love.
