Mary is a strong, well written character. Great story telling. You will root for her & cry for her. The system failed her but she wants better for herself & her future baby. she actually did kill Alyssa! But when you find out why she did, a part of you will still feel for her. But talk about a surprise ending! The abuse she faced & resulting trauma makes you cry for her, but also hope that she will still be a good mom to her own "bean".
