this book starts out soooooo slow. "starts out" of course meaning that 65% of the book is soooooooo sloooowwwwwwwww. maybe if i was more of a die-hard slasher horror fan i would have enjoyed the nonstop references, but i found Jade to be pretty insufferable for a majority of this book. i will say though, when things pick up, they PICK UP. it goes from super slow to really, really fast very quickly. it took me a few weeks to get through the first 250 pages (almost DNF so many times but pushed through bc i saw reviews saying it got better..) and like two days to get to the end. there's definitely a lot of unresolved things at the end, i wish that there had been a bit more of a deeper exploration into the parallels between stacey graves/jade, her relationship with her mother, etc.. but this is a trilogy so maybe that'll be the focus of the next two books. unsure if i'm going to keep reading the trilogy though. imo the slow start is not totally made up for by the fun/scary ending. we could have deleted like 150 pages.
