Under Heaven
by Guy Gavriel Kay
Man do I like Kay. This is a beautiful book. I find his more modern-fantasy stuff a little clunky, but his command of history and his ability to add just the right touch of the fantastic really does it for me. Also, the poetry is surprisingly good. A lot of fantasy writers should avoid poetry, but he nails it here.
