I don't know what it is about Warbreaker. It's not my favorite Cosmere book. It's not the best from a technical sense. It wasn't even the first Cosmere novel I ever read. Yet when I got the urge to read the Cosmere books (again) after the Kickstarter drop on March 1, I picked up Warbreaker first, the same way I do every time I get the urge to read the Cosmere again. I think perhaps it's what it represents, for Warbreaker perfectly encapsulates the Cosmere zeitgeist. A nuanced, balanced take on religion with a spectrum of believers and non-believers? Delicately crafted and loveable characters? A colorful world that flips all assumptions of fantasy worlds on their heads? A magic system that has intricate internal logic while still somehow managing to be cool as hell? Warbreaker's got all of them, and while none of its elements are at their perfect incarnation, it does enough to draw you into the worlds of the Cosmere.
