The Exiled Queen by Cinda Williams Chima
3.0

I am still so surprised that people like this book so much. Basically nothing happens for 3/4 of the book. Traveling. And a bunch of school. Hints of plot, maybe.

Raise continues to annoy -- I mean, we're all told she's this fierce, strong character, and I guess she has a few qualities . . . but mostly, she seems like a self-entitled girl who is determined to get what she wants. Han is at least a decent character, and I liked Cat. But the rest of the cast fell into rather forgettable parts (Dancer, Micah, Abelard, Gryphon, etc.).

Again, pacing was such a problem in this story. The plot itself was good enough, although some of the character actions still left me annoyed (we're told they're smart, but then they go do something extraordinarly stupid). Setting is a strong point . . . but almost too strong. Feels like half the book is setting. Which, I suppose, is interesting enough. The fantasy world Chima has created is in-depth, but unfortunately, I'm not going to school to learn about this place -- I'm here for a story.

But despite its flaws and its very slow start, the book began to pick up more. And I did want to finish it. If anything, it's an entertaining series.
