All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks

emotional hopeful informative inspiring medium-paced

5.0

*why:* oh my god i've been raving about this book to everyone i know ever since i've picked it up: it's absolutely phenomenal and was such a well-timed read for this phase in my life of recovery and self-growth, yada. bell hooks' words are absolutely beautiful and so inspiring: i knew from the introduction that it's a life-changing book. the critique of capitalism and our culture of domination/power that perpetuates patriarchal norms is so!!!! all her quotes about lovelessness, wounds, and the healing potential of love; oh my gosh it puts my thoughts into words and feels incredible. particularly liked her thoughts on love & change, forgiveness, healing, loving as an intention/action, our fear of love. how we long for love despite being cynical of it and even fear it! how loving is an intention to promote one's and another's growth! frighteningly relevant even 20 years after its publication and just so important in understanding what love is < 3 no clue how i've never read any of her works before??? will definitely have to give this a reread in a few months after her ideas have settled, and will have to incorporate some of her ideas into my daily practices 💗

*rec:* super highly recommend, it's such a piece of art - everyone whom i'm shared quotes with has fell in love with the book, those who've read it before sing praises of it!
