"Thus strangely are our souls constructed, and by such slight ligaments are we bound to prosperity or ruin."

you guys I'm feeling really bad for not loving this... I consider myself a big fan of horror anything and this is a horror classic so I'm truly wondering if there's something wrong with me.......

anyway, I really enjoyed the story. I was familiar with many aspects of it, of course, but I was unfamiliar with just as many. Shelley knows how to write sympathetic characters extremely well, which makes it really hard to read this book whenever someone fucks up big time and you wanna just be mad but you can't.

Victor is, as we all know, a terrible person but his reasons are sympathetic and understandable (he's also really dumb for such a smart person but dumb character syndrome is a common issue).

Elizabeth is very bland actually, like really she has maybe 4 characteristics and that's probably reaching a bunch. I am really excited to read "The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein" and get to know her better (from a different perspective of course but I'll take what I can get).

The creature broke my fucking heart and also made me incredibly mad at times. perfect "villain" that really doesn't deserve to be villainified.

and honourable mention to my dear dear Henry who is literally the only good person that this book contains and I'd give my life for him. he deserves much better. I hope the plot of Dark Descent is Elizabeth marries him and they have babies.

all over a good book, great story but the writing is way too much. there's too much of everything and it's one of those few books that actually make me go "there's too many words here". also it's extremely overdramatic and that's just not my style, but I dealt just fine and I'm glad I pushed through. the story made it worth it.
